Welcome to Exism!

Every headline across America in every paper has something to do with the Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers worry about healthcare, retirement, stocks, etc. Fifty is the new 30. Baby Boomers are still sexually active.

On the flip side, we hear endless news about the Millennials. Millennials are a force to be reckoned with. Millennials have huge buying power and control advertising. Millennials have revolutionized communication with endless texting.

Where is Generation X in all of this media attention? The numbers are astounding. Sandwiched between 80 million baby boomers and 78 million millennials, Generation X — roughly defined as anyone born between 1965 and 1980 — has just 46 million members, according to Time.

Enter Exism. Exism is a new site designed to remember the middle child-Generation X. No, there are no whiny baby boomer posts here. There are no stories on how Britney gained weight and wore a revealing swimsuit. There are no stories about how the baby boomers won’t survive the social security crisis.

It is time for Generation X to be the center of attention. After all, we already have to make less than our parents did at our age. Most of us had to grow up in broken up homes, during the AIDS crisis all while having to be stuck between neverending whining from our parents and our kids.

Generation X is the middle child stuck in the backseat between the old grandma and the screaming baby. It is a Generation that has endured constant complaining and “Me! Me! Me!” attitudes.

It is time for Generation X to have a voice. It is time for Exism!

ColumnistTop Five Artists of The Nineties
by Laura Trahan(7)

VH1 is famous for its countdowns these days. On March 20th, the once second favorite music video station will countdown the top 100 songs of the 90s. In preparation, I began to think and remember all the songs that I would sing (mostly the wrong words) at the top of my lungs. The nineties was a great decade in music. It was the introduction of alternative and grunge music. It created a whole flannel wearing, moshing generation. Shopping at the Goodwill and Salvation Army was what the cool people did. Bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice and Chains revolutionized the history of rock music with a new Seattle grunge sound. In that spirit, I am going to share my top five...
